Rafique Awan had a dream to open his own restaurant, the concept being to modernise the Indian restaurant. Taking it away from the late night eating place with dark, dated decor. His idea was to have bright airy surroundings, serving good quality food at affordable prices for everyone. In 1987 this dream became a reality and Shere Khan was born.

The Shere Khan is a family run business and has established a name for quality Indian food. Come and visit us and give us a try!!!

I cannot believe how people can suggest that this place does a decent curry. My bhuna was like chicken in bisto gravy. Even the pickle trays were useless. The only decent currys I've had down the curry mile were at Lal Quila and Darbar, the latter being some years ago now. Clearly some people need to shop around a bit as there is so much better out there.

Having such a choice of restaurants on the curry mile, Shere Khan is the one that definately succeeds them all. With the decor contemporary and light, i met my friend there for dinner. Immediately we were greeted warmly, and the staff couldn't do enough to help us. The menu was extensive and the food arrived quickly. We ordered the chicken biryani, chicken korma and masala and i can honestly say i haven't had a better indian meal. The food was fresh, tasty and good value for money. For me, i live in London and get spoilt for choice with restaurants. However, Shere Khan is now firmly a favourite and whenever i will be next in Manchester it will be my first destination for food. If your lucky enough to live nearby then make the most of it. It was simply fanastic and worth 5* in this review.

A REAL DELIGHT ---- this one of many in rushole FROM THE MOMENT YOU WALK IN, THE STAFF, RESTURANT AND ATMOSPHERE IS JUST PERFECT. WE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES NOW, AND WOULDNT GO ANYWHERE ELSE. THE MANAGER IS LOVELY. HE GREETS YOU AS YOU WALK IN, AND NOTHING IS TOO MUCH TROUBLE. YOU WANT YOUR CURRY HOTTER OR MILDER --- JUST ASK AND IT IS DONE. THE MANAGER HAS DONE WONDERS WITH THIS PLACE. WE FOUND NO MESS ON THE FLOORS AND THE TABLES AND CUTLERY ARE IMMACULATE. AS PRICE GOES, CANT FAULT THAT EITHER. I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMED THIS RESTURANT. YOU LIKE MY HUSBAND AND I WILL RETURN TIME AND TIME AGAIN. MY FINAL WORD TO DESCRIBE THIS PLACE IS LIKE GOING TO AN OLD FRIENDS FOR DINNER. MANY THANKS SHERE KHAN SEE YOU SOON. JOANNE AND ROBIN (BE BACK THIS WEEKEND FOR SOME MORE GREEN STUFF LOL)

Enjoyed my visit here a couple of years ago but was appalled to find out shortly after that they had been fined for seriously contravening H & S with cockroaches on poppodums and droppings in the kitchens etc. However, everything deserves another chance and we went a couple of months back. THere was a group of 12 of us or so and they tried to overcharge us by some £90! Beware, once we pointed out the error they seemed aware what they had done and were not apologetic in the slightest. Food was ok, good sized portions and the service was efficient and was neither rude nor friendly..

Really nice and tasty fresh cooked food, well looked after by the waiters, i really enjoyed this place as i am a curry lover and i have had some bad curries in my time but was so impressed to find somewhere that now i cant find myselt going anywhere else as i am so impressed, so try it and im sure you will be sayin the same.

KAREN - 26 February 2008

This place overrates itself to an absurd extent! The food is pretty poor and they are just a bit cheeky in marketing themselves as the real deal when they use sauces from a jar!!! It is also one of the most expensive restaurants on the curry mile. Not worth your time, your money or your tastebuds.

M. K. - 28 July 2007

I went in with a friend last night and found the food to be really, really nice, put it this way, we left the place with full tummies - portions are a good size. The service was on the whole great - no long waits, in fact the staff were quite prompt. The bill was reasonable, middle of the road - but I'd go back again - definately, although we're on a quest to try some of the other restaurants featured on this website. The moral of the story is "don't believe everything you read in a review - make your own mind up!" You may be pleasanlty surprised!!!

Divamuse - 11tth July 07 - 13 July 2007

So surpirised to see bad reviews!! One of the best curries I have ever had! The service was excellent - waiter was helpful and unobtrusive. the bill was very reaasonable too. Would recommend to anyone.

Just avoid it! It's awful. Over priced and over rated. 5 years ago I would have said go there. Now the service is a shambles. The food is awful. I got food poisoning but it didn't put me off, I went back 2 months later and got food poisoning again.

Mohsin - 29 March 2007

I love Indian food and will prefer it anytime. I went to this restaurant thinking that the food is going to be nice. I ordered stuffed paranthas. It took 50 minutes for the paranthas to come. The taste was average. The cheque was quite heavy on my wallet. I like the atmosphere.

Tushar - 19 March 2007

Absolutely awful. The waiter came 3 times to ask what we wanted to drink and still we had to keep asking them where the drinks were. It then took well over 1 hour before anyone came to take our food order (which they did a couple of times). We asked and asked where our food was. After 1 and half hours we left. They still charged us £10 for the drinks which is shocking after the total lack of service. I would rate them 0/10. I have been to many restaurants up and down the country and most of them in Rusholme but this is the worst i've ever been to.

Andrew Pollitt - 18 March 2007

A large group of us went for a meal, we were really well looked after. We never wanted for anything, the waiters were not intrusive, you can have some really good banter with them. We watched our meals being cooked and were asked by the chef if we wanted more chillis etc adding, a nice personal touch. The prices certainly aren't bad, food quality good, service excellent. The thing to watch for is that service is added automaticaly to your bill, but we had such a good time we left extra anyway.

Richard - 10 March 2007

Went a part of a group of 8, service was poor. Waiter was not allowed to take order for main course as this had to be taken by the manager. When we did not want to order starter, got a snooty expression from the manager. Even though the restaurant was half empty it still took a considerable amount of time for the food to arrive.

GAM - 04 March 2007

This restarant is just hype. I have been told for years to have a meal at Shia Khan and it was one of the worst Indian cuisine meales I have ever had. I think every single Indian restaurant in Scarborough is better than this one. If you go to the restaurant by cab then ask the cab driver where to eat, both the one going and the one coming back recomended other restaurants in Rusholme. Said Shia Khan was good 5 years ago but now less than avaerage and I totally agree. If you really want a good Indian meal then go to Eastern Paradise in Scarborough.

Ian Hepples - 14 February 2007

Went into the restaurant upoin the back of the food range in supermarkets, and was very unimpressed. The waiter that came to the table was rude, after asking for still water was told to "shut up" because they only had sparkling! Didn't even taste the food, was so offended by the atmosphere and attitude of the staff that i left.

Alec Pemberton - 13 February 2007

The food was average at best and I was less than happy to get my credit card bill to find I'd been charged twice for the meal and had to get my bank to reclaim one of the payments. Not that I'm saying it was deliberate but it never happens in good restaurants.

Dave - 28 November 2006

One of the best jalfrezis I've had - food could not be faulted but the miserable, petulant young waiter we got spoiled our meal somewhat.

Stu, M20 - 25 October 2006

Stay well away if you want to avoid being poisoned! I had dinner there 2 weeks ago and then 4 days later read in the newspaper of how it was to be closed because the kitchen was disgustingly filthy - cockraches, rat droppings and "a layer of grime and dirt covering most surfaces". The article has put me off going for a curry anywhere. It was THAT revolting.

Tomjmul - 24 September 2006

Was there- 3 weeks ago- food was not upto much and to many " lager lout" clientele for my liking. Would not reccomend.

James - 31 August 2006

the food was very poor it tasted like ready meals.service was a joke i could.nt find a waiter that spoke english.

r fisher - 10 August 2006

the setting of the place attracted us to dine the bright yellow table cloths help to lift the restaurant and give it a good feel, good service even though it was busy it wasnt the best of curries for of us dined and i tasted them all for me a sign of of good curry is when you can see ingrediants in it ie the tomat the onion the odd bit of chillie etc but no signs here, also when you get the bill its hard to see what your being charged read into that what you will.

paul - 14 July 2006

I have eaten at this restaurant many many times over the years, I have always had very good fresh food .. my only quibble would be that your experience there is a very rushed one .. it is one of the larger restaurants and they have alot of waiters .. so you'll never want for anything ... but you will have your dinner whipped infront of you and then whipped away the second you have finsihed ! if your after a cozy dinner for 2 .. then try one of the smaller, more personable curry houses ... if theres a few of you and you want 'fast food' this is the best !!

Dave H - 08 July 2006

My favourite place in Rusholme. Absolutely gorgeous food, and a great atmosphere. Try it!!

curry freak - 29 June 2006

It's not bad - there are certainly worse places along the curry mile. I found it to be a little expensive, especially given that the food was only average. The rice was over-cooked and slimy, coming in some kind of oil which was not my thing at all. the curry itself was nice enough but nothing special. The place itself is nice insidxe but far too noisey and the service took ages and didn't get the order right. Not recommended, to be honest

Me - 17 March 2006

Wow!! I must have eaten thousands of curries in my lifetime, whether it be a take away from a tiny local or in the far east and last Saturday is the best I've ever had! I'm not just talking about the food, the food was great ya, but there was more to it than that. The atmosphere was fantastic, really buzzing and vibrant. The staff were great. Exteremely efficient, smiley, helpful, curteous, brilliant. The price was unbeleivable too, I felt we'd robbed them!!! Top restaurant and I'll definately be back!!!

Martyn Sommerville - 06 March 2006

Visited 23rd Jan 2006. Ample parking (cost £3 but can claim £1 back in restaurant - advise park under street light) Mens toliets would benefit from a new hand dryer as blow power is weak and I had to dry my hands on my jeans. Staff very friendly and ample starter was provided - suggest park under street light and bring tissue for drying hands. Chicken and chips available for those that don't really like curry. Good selection for main course (all the usual favourites). Nice minty dip for poppadoms. Vegetarian in our party was well catered for. Nice ambience as bangra was played after 9pm. Free lolly (vimto) was a nice touch. Would recommend to family and friends.

Pete & Paul - 23 January 2006
