Our Indian cuisine is a combination of subtle tastes, flavours are as varied as the climate of India and as exotic as the country.

Fragrant spices, pungent and warm from the four corners of the country are delicately blended in meticulous proportions to create the dishes we present to you....the true taste of India.

Each dish will have its own distinct flavour and aroma which cannot come from any curry powder but from individual herbs and spices that we choose to give that aromatic flavour which cannot be matched elsewhere.

I love Punjab. They do by far the best Saag Paneer in town!

the only place in Rusholme for Bhel Puri and Dosas. Yum yum

I thought would never get Indian food in NorthWest it is always crap that is dubbed as Indian food but the food in Punjab changed my opinion. There was some real indian taste and some real indian dishes . I would recommend this to everyone who wants real indian food

My Boyfriend and frequented this restaurant for years (at least once a month) It was by far the best for quality of food and service, however the last few times we've visited, the food tasted like it was straight from a tin-The last time We both ordered specials -my boyfriends looked like an asda basic lamb curry from the tin the lamb pieces were tiny n flaky (he'd ordered a spicy lamb and garlic special) and mine was basically minestrone soup (it was exactly like a tin of baxters-even down to the pasta shapes) with marinated chicken in it (i'd ordered a special chicken chilli tikka dish) The service was still friendly but the food was awful. We've never felt so disapointed with a restaurant before.

For years my wife and myself have visited Rusholme’s Curry Mile once a month and after several dodgy curries at various eateries we usually go to either Lal Haweli or Lal Qila, Both of these IMHO have a consistent quality of food, service and ambience. On Boxing Day we fancied a change and visited the Punjab for the first time, after reading good reviews on this site. Were not disappointed, but there were some quirky moments - mainly service. Initially , we were surprised that Punjab was so quiet. Just 6 people including us, Other places on the mile had many more diners inside and I must admit if I had not read the reviews I would not have gone in. A quiet restaurant usually says one thing to me and it is not inviting. Unabated we went in and were greeted in a friendly manner and seated quickly. Drinks were ordered immediately but somehow they interpreted a glass of lemonade as a vodka and lemonade. They quickly exchanged it and no harm done. The menu has lots of unusual choices and they provide many vegetarian options. This being a quiet night they came quickly to order the meals. Too quick, as this was a new menu to me and I wanted to look at all the options. In the end we didn’t experiment and went for “safe” choices for both starters and mains. I suppose so that we could compare Punjab with others. The popadoms were fresh and that was a good start. Just one starter , Shami Kebab and this was excellent. It was the type that is like lamb, lentil and herb mix bound with egg. It was very fresh and so was the salad. No microwave cooking here. The mains followed the starter in a blink of the eye. I didn’t appreciate this as the food had obviously been waiting to come out. If a restaurant is full, then it gives the kitchen staff more to think about and the orders come out slower. The casualty of this was the garlic nan that was nicely light but also luke warm. The other food was excellent: Chicken Korma and boiled rice, Chicken Tikka Biriani with Madras sauce. The quality of the food is very good and we were not disappointed. However , as stated in another review, Punjab is heavy on the spice so the Madras was fiery – but quite OK for me and the Korma had a little spicy tingle to it. This caused my wife to order more lemonade that was sans Vodka the second time.We finished the meal and the table was quickly cleared and then…….. well, nothing, Three of the staff started to change the table cloths for every table and one sat down behind the bar chatting on his mobile. Again, I assume quiet night syndrome. 20 minutes passed and no one asked if we wanted a desert. As it happens we didn’t but I did eventually call a waiter over and order an Irish Coffee. An amusing Fawlty Towers scene ensued where the waiter could not understand what liqueur I wanted in my coffee, Eventually I pointed to the Jameson bottle behind the bar and he understood. All in all I would recommend this restaurant. The overall experience is good and a similar standard to the other 2 places I mentioned. Its down to taste and here it’s a little spicier. The service was quirky but this can happen anywhere on the mile. We thought Punjab was definitely worth another visit.

Four of us went to the Punjab on Friday 16 Nov. I chose this one as a result of reading other reviews about the place. We travelled from Burnley, quite a distance, and quite frankly I wish we hadn't bothered. We arrived at 8.30 and were shown to a table right in the front window looking out on to the street. The interior looked like it could do with a good make-over, and the tablecloths had food on them from the previous occupants. The service was good however, and was served in a friendly and polite manner. The food is best described as mediocre. I have eaten much better curries in Blackburn. I honestly don't know why others have raved about this place. I could only find two good things going for it. 1. The service. 2. The price. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to what you are prepared to put up with, and where you have eaten previously. The jazzy lights and the late night crowds on Wilmslow Road add, perhaps, to the atmosphere, so it is understandable why eating out here is so popular.

Nice Masala Dosa..

Varun - 12 September 2007

The only place we go on the Curry Mile. Quality can be variable, but it is always at least good and sometimes very good. It's hard to find competition for Punjab since we are not interested in British Indian fair and really want the sorts of Indian options you can only find at Punjab. The service is also spotty and sometimes very slow. Even if I sound negative, I recommend Punjab and think that it's the place to go on the Curry Mile.

Paco Disley - 02 September 2007

Spot on - good service and great food. Very reasonable - £43 for four people including drinks. Chilli chicken is excellent - tomato spiciness.... mmmm.

Rob - 20 August 2007

this was my favourite restraunt thanks to its completely different style of food. very indian. but last time i went i ordered my usual paneer dosa. only it tasted wrong, like parmesan, but i continued eating it. anyway later on that night i became ill. so i havent returned there since and probally never will.

little john - 05 August 2007

Fantastic service. Very polite and attentive staff who made their customers feel at ease and comfortable from the minute they walk in. My husband and I went after a concert 'on speck' and found the staff all very helpful and friendly, even helping us after our meal by calling for a taxi for us. The food was very good indeed and certainly would recommend this restaurant for it's food and service *****

Had a meal here yesterday. Pretty poor. 3 time I have visited curry mile and every time I have been disappointed. I come from Glasgow and even the worst take away would serve up better fare than anything I have eaten in Curry mile- absolute dross. Servings werent big either, and the smallest naan breads I have ever seen in my life. shocking.

Stuart Mclean - 22 April 2007

Took a couple of my (vegetarian) friends here last Friday after the Manchester Versus Cancer gig. They said it was the best veg jalfrezi they'd ever had. My chicken jalfrezi was faultless. Yet again the quality and speed of service, the price and the ambience of the place (not full of drunks) are top class.

19th march 2007 Gorgeous meal , used to be a regular visitor to rusholme but not been for a long time as i didnt feel it was worth the journey up there since my favourite restaurants were took over . Went to punjab yesterday for mothers day after reading the reviews on this website , excellent will now be a regular visitor once again.

linds - 19 March 2007

The best, most authentic restaurant I've found in Rusholme. Excellent for veggies, and to my knowledge the only place in the whole of Manchester that does dosas. They're a personal favourite, and having tried a good many in India I can vouch that they're all but identical to the real thing! I also recommend the Handi, which again is very much like Maharastran food. Watch out though, if you're of a delicate disposition, it's quite hot.

Matt Linley - 15 January 2007

A hidden gem, not full of leery drunks and lots of indian peole eating here which reinforces the fact that the food is some of the best on the mile.

Stu - 19 December 2006

Excellent restaurant with friendly staff. The keema naan's were excellent and contained chillis - something that 'the club' had not seen before. We will be back. MCC Sept 06

Manchester Curry Club - 25 October 2006

Fantastic! After an extensive trip to India, needed to find somewhere to satiate my need for authentic indian food. after trying several restaurants on the strip we finaly found it. the only place, as far as i have found, to serve Dosa's, just need them to start doing Idli and chai, oh, and open about 7.30am! Main meals are excellent, chicken moghlai especially. we can now be found there at least once a week. Please do try, atmosphere and service is excellent.

Simon & Melanie - 25 October 2006

I am allergic to gluten which means I can't eat anything containing wheat, barley, oats, malt or rye. The staff at the Punjab were outstandingly helpful in looking after my dietary requirements even going to the extent of changing my main course choice because I ordered it not expecting it to contain a small amount of pasta. The chef also brought a packet of popodoms to me so I could check the ingredients. The food was excellent service outstanding and value for money unbelievable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone particularly if you have special dietary requirements.

John Gilvary - 15 October 2006

I LOVE this place. Brilliant food and great staff, would recommed it to anyone. They have a few different things to the other places along Curry Mile, have never had a bad meal there

curry freak - 29 June 2006

Definitely the best in the Curry Mile. The dosas are excellent

Mike Homfray - 22 May 2006

Wednesday 5th April 2006. We agreed that the three of us had enjoyed a fantastic meal . The staff were very friendly, the food sumptuous, the drinks refreshing, the atmosphere brilliant, and best of all the price was very reasonable. We will definitely go again.

John, Sara, Joseph. - 09 April 2006

An excellent restaurant that makes some really nice South Indian dishes. I tried masala dosai which was really good. They do take away as well. Nice friendly service. I am planning to visit atleast once in a week.

Jayson John - 23 March 2006

I have been to this restaurant several time now. They do excellent north and south Indian dishes. Friendly service and at a cheap price.

Reji Varghese - 23 March 2006

A great restaurant... a few years ago it was completely vegetarian, but now they serve meat, although the veggie menu is still very good. This place is, as far as i know, the only Manchester restaurant that serves dosas, and they're very good too. Staff are polite, the recently decorated toilets are fine (03/12/05) and there are many regular customers- always a good sign.
