Excellent service from start to finish, great food and a smart looking restaurant. I would definitely recommend it and will revisit the next time I am in Rusholme!

Toni - 06 December 2008

Today! i visited rusholme curry mile. Its an amazing place. It was very difficult for me to choose a place to eat. But at the same time some people, those were coming out from lal haweli restaurant recomended me that this one is fantastic. I decided to eat there. And i was much impressed by the best quality of food an service. I ate chicken balti punjabi style it was realy a big portion with touch of exact ratio of spices. It was the best curry ive' eaten in my life. The size of nan bread was so large that i had to ask the waiter to cut it into small pieces. Anyway i did like this place an i would like to go there again.

Tariq... london - 14 November 2008

I went to this restaurant on sunday night an i've tried healthy option menu the portion was bit small but very tasty over all satisfied. i will go back again to try low calories menu.

Sunny chorlton - 10 November 2008

I had a meal last night at this restaurant for the first time, and I was very disappointed. The food was poor and the service was worse. The starter I had (onion bhagi) was a very meagre potion and overcooked to the point of being burnt. The main course (lamb rogan josh) was adequate, but the dessert (Stawberry Eton Mess Cheesecake) was the biggest disappointment. It too them 45 minutes to eventually serve a party of seven (two had their desert after 20 minutes, and the rest of us had another 25 minute wait until ours was served!) we had to badger various members of staff until finally getting served, and when it came, mine was frozen solid - obviously just been taken out of the freezer!!! I and my colleagues were totally dissatisfied with the experience and will definitely not be repeating it!

Dark_Knight565 - 02 November 2008

well,we ate in this place on this wednesday night because a guy approached us outside.food was good but service was'nt good .we'd to wait for 55 mints.for our main meal.a young waiter who was serving food was very rude in his behaviour .

C.Wendy Manchester - 02 July 2008

Visited with two friends on a Tuessday afternoon recently at about 4.30. We were the only people in the restaurant but still waited a long time to have our order taken. The starters took at least 30 minutes to arrive, two of us had ordered shish kebab which was presented on one platter between us with no side plates or salad at all! When I politely pointed this out to the waiter he looked at me like I was asking for the world! The kebabs were OK once we got the salad and plates to eat them on. We then waited a further 45 minutes without main courses and were given several different reasons for the delay. In the end we got up and walked out and won't be returning in a hurry. They clearly didn't want our custom and made no effort at all to deal with the obvious inadequecies of the chef/kitchen staff. I did begin to wonder if the chef was even there or was the waiter doing the whole thing himself...

Owd Lad, Shropshire - 12 June 2008

Ate there with a large group on 05/30/2007, Service was great, very nice to us. Explained menu items and spices when ask. Food was hot and had a great taste. Mild was warm with lots of flavor. Not use to eating this type of food but would not hesitate to eat here again.

"The atmosphere was excellent, excellent menu and huge choice for veggies. Great for a special occasion, feel like you've had a good night out! Will be taking friends next Sat night."

gopi ayshton u line - 24 November 2007

"The most easy going and relaxing place on the 'mile'. Superb service, excellent food and very friendly staff. We have been going there every Friday for the last 10 years and can see no reason to change!"

ben manchester - 24 November 2007

hia i am an indian student just studying in mmu was in lal haweli last week with some of my friends and we really enjoyed the food. food was gorgeous, service was excellent, atmosphere full of livly music and all these at a very unbeatable price. i personally recommend all the visitors of this site and my country's student fellows to visit this restaurant and try its golorious food. I'll rate this restaurant with 5 star and 10 out of 10.

raju - 10 November 2007

in the past i always avoided this place, ironically because of it's popularity. but i have been here afew times now due to my previously favoured restraunts i have to say this place is pretty good. service is very fast, seek kebabs, rani haweli, haweli special mix kebabs and many more starters are very fresh and regarding their main courses i tried from the kathmandu valley a dish called masoo tareko is nice and spicy full of flavours and my patner had KAJU GOSHt which is like mild and rich sauce with cahew nutsand a very tendered lamb. good bar with coca cola on draft unlike the usual flat bottle in most restaunts. i recommend to my colluges, friends to enjoy the exoctic kathmandu valleys of this restaurant

john warrington - 10 November 2007

Great restaurant! I went to this restaurant with my mates and i tried the "chicken chilli dish" and i really liked this dish as i think the taste was very beautiful. This dish reminds me of back home in India. I think this was one of the best restaurant's i have been to as the food prices were amazing and also i think that the waiter service was excellent.

khasif - 28 October 2007

I went to Lal Haweli yesterday and i have to say that it was fantastic i tried the balti punjabi dish and the chicken chilli dish and i have to admit that these two dishes were superb. The spices reminded of me of my punjab. I think the food was value for money. i think the customer service was excellent as the food i ordered was with me in 10 miutes. Excellent restaurant.

gurpreet - 28 October 2007

After eating in all restaurents,i reccomend the 'LAL HAWAILI' the best one caz there is a big choice of different traditional dishes. Only this restaurant introduces healthy options in curry. I found the real taste of indian curry here.i've never seen friendly staff like of this restaurant.

A.S. - 27 October 2007

I went here with my family , have 2 say that the food was excellent and the service exteremely fantastic!! A proper traditional asian style curry . will return.

bea and alfonso - 15 October 2007

my wife and i have eaten here on six occasions and every time the food and service has been excellent , a must for curry lovers everywhere.

s.william - 15 October 2007

Been to this place twice now and food, service and prices are excellent. Really dont know what some people go on about at all. They do a 5 course meal for £6.50 12 - 5pm, mon - sat. Well worth it. Chicken was very nice just for the record.

tucker - 15 October 2007

I've never had a bad meal here. You may have to wait a bit if it's a busy week-end, but generally the service is fine. The chef is magnificent and the staff always pleasant, smiling and friendly. If you visit on a regular basis the staff ply you with lots of lovely free tit bits and bend over backwards to make sure you are happy!!

Martin - 07 October 2007

Went to this restaurant over the weekend on the strength of some of these reviews. This is by far the worst restaurant on the mile. The service was terrible - 20 minutes before a waiter took our order (had to ask 3 times for somebody) then it took 45 minutes for the food to arrive. We were sent orders to our table that weren't ours at least 4 times. I had a chicken tikka buhna. It was quite nice but there wasn't much of it! Somebody else had an inedible dish which was described as sweet chili. Somebody else ordered a vindaloo which tasted like bovril. First time ever I have never left a tip because the service was so poor. Will not being going back here and wouldn't recommend that anybody else wastes their time and money here!

Russ Holme - 24 September 2007

Don't get ahead of yourselves, people. It's just OK!

M.K. - 28 July 2007

I have been in this restaurant many times and that was mainly because they had a magician who was exceptionally entertaining to watch. The food has always had its good and bad days.. i dont know why!!! But since the magician has left working there i havnt bothered going there again mainly because I have prefered the food at shahensha reataurant.. they have a much better taste.. must try!

sarah - 23 March 2007

I normally go to Lal Haweli with my friend whenever we want to go for a curry. The food is normally glorious, we have never had any problems with getting badly served or late arrivals with regards to our food and I would recommend it for its cuisine. I do however have one issue, the last two times we have been we have been asked the "are you all right, is the food OK" question probably a total of 15 times without exaggeration. On the second to last occasion, approached 7 times by 7 different waiters, who were all huddled together so they knew that we had been approached already, and the last occasion, 8 TIMES. That puts you off your food slightly.

Chennie - 03 January 2007

The food was bland and not very tasty at all. I had chicken Karahi which had very little flavour. Would not recommend it. It's got good reveiws in the past, maybe the chef had the night off! Definately did not live up to it's reputation.

Lal Haweli - 20 November 2006

Actually wasn't hugely impressed food ok but service a bit rushed. Not bad by any means but not the best. Thought the bill was very reasonable.

Stu, M20 - 25 October 2006

Popped in last night, primarily due to the reviews on this site. I was not disappointed! I had the lamb balti Punjabi which was superb. My friends had a chicken shashlick and a chicken karahi off the 'healthy' menu (nice touch) and my other half had a chicken mughlai, which she was fairly unimpressed with. However, that is personal preference and I thought it was rather tasty! All in all, I would go again - splendid stuff.

The Captain - 30 September 2006

I just visited this restaurant through a recomendation of a friend, and was amazed that the food was superb and loved the new healhy option, staff was very friendly and polite the best bit was they alwayz had a smile on there faces, i had chicken balti punjabi of the healty options and it was gorgeous, i been almost in every restaurant in ruslome but i have to say it was the best meal i ever had. i will see u very soon

James - 28 September 2006

Been in a few restraunts over the years in Rusholme now but this certainly takes some beating.

Paul from Warrington - 03 September 2006

First class food is served here from the very capable hands of chef, Mr Choudray Proprieter, Ali ,makes sure that everything is as it should be and is always at hand ensuring the smooth running of a well established restaurant. The waiters are exremely helpful and will discuss the various dishes and help you with your choice. A warrm welcome from genuinely friendly staff make this a firm favourite. Strongly recommended.

Angela - 26 August 2006

We've been again today to Lal Haweli, [see May entry in the reviews] for my birthday, and again the food, service, atmosphere and overall experience was truly lovely. My husband tried one of the chefs specials "Chicken Sultani" and I once again had the Chicken Shashlik. GORGEOUS FOOD! The children were happy with their choices of the things kids like. There are so many restaurants on the curry mile to choose from, but we can't go to any others as there's always the possibility that we could be disappointed..........but not at Lal Haweli. Keep it going! CDA&D

the Bazza's - 30 July 2006

The worst curry I have ever had! Terrible service (over an hours wait with no warning), unhelpful and rude staff. The beer was not only served in dirty glasses (which did match the dirty table I suppose) but was off. Replaced with no apology. No apology either for the wait, terrible service or bland food. Despite being very hungry by the time the food arrived, could not finish our food. Appalling!

LJ - 26 July 2006

Ate at ths restaurant last night and have to say I was dissapointed .. the food was good .. but one of the four of us didnt enjoy it .. there was a dead fly on the popodoms .. plus the beer was bad .. and we kept on having to change our glasses several times .. some of the staff didnt speak english .. overall not great .. which is a shame ! if i wanted a large curry house to eat in .. i'd go to the shere khan everytime !!

Dave H - 09 July 2006

Three of have just come home from a fantastic meal. We've had the best curry in a long time! Chefs specials are gorgeous........try the chicken shaslik...........it's fantastic. We'll be back.

Bazza's - 28 May 2006

Very Nice food, would definitely reccommend. Probably the best in Rusholme

Mark - 20 May 2006

Lal Haweli is hard to miss, even in the bright lights of Rusholme, as it is one of the largest and brightest restaurants on the Wilmslow Road. It has now been established long enough to win a reputation for itself amongst curry connoiseurs. Therefore, when we were invited back, by manager Salim to see for ourselves, we were delighted to witness a vibrant and friendly restaurant where the quality of the food and service stand out. Lal Haweli is a large modern, air conditioned, licensed restaurant. It has a clean pastel green decor giving a light fresh feel to the place. It has a more upmarket feel to it than many of the other restaurants in the area. On this occasion we had poppadoms and a selection of chutneys and pickles to start whilst we studied the menu and ordered a refreshing pint of lager. We had mixed starters which were extremely tasty. The lamb and chicken tikka were moist and tender and suitably spiced. The sheek kebab was fresh and spicy with a good hint of fresh green chili. The starters were served with a fresh crisp side salad and portion sizes were excellent. After such wholesome starters we wondered if we could do the main course justice. I'm pleased to report that we did our best. The keema karahi was exceptional, the chili chicken was extremely pleasant and spicy. The chili sauce was sweet and piquant at the same time, the chicken was tender strips of filet in a light batter. We also had a Nepalese style of lamb curry, which was a little similar to karahi lamb is the best way I can describe it. Of the main courses this was probably my favourite, although Sandro & I agreed that all three dishes were excellent. The main courses were accompanied by cashew nut and pea pillau rice. This was the first time I had tried this style of rice and I enjoyed the crunchy texture of the cashew nuts against the softer texture of the rice and peas. It was beautiful. We also had onion and garlic kulcha, which is a type of nan bread stuffed with onion and garlic and plain chappati. We finished with coffee, to round off an excellent meal. Also Salim entertained us with his legendary card tricks. Apparently he used to be a professional magician and is a member of the Magic Circle. He had a brilliant repertoire with which he keeps the customers entertained, so much so that he is now a local attraction! The restaurnat prices are still higher than average for the area but still on a par with the more prestigious restaurants. Considering the surroundings and the quality of the food and entertainment, Lal Haweli, is in our opinion excellent value and well worth a visit.

- 25 April 2006

I visited Lal Haweli on the 24th Feb 2006. Not only was the service poor but the following week I visited my GP who confirmed that I had food poisoning (Campylobacter) which most likely had been from poorly prepared chicken. As this restaurent was the only place I had eaten chicken I therefore assume it was from here. I strongly urge people to avoid this restaurent

Lal Haweli - 19 March 2006

India is something which proves the Theory and unfolds themyth of “love at fist sight”. And same goes to this fabulous restaurant of Wilmslow Road. Lal Haweli has given a new break through to the Indian Cuisine. But still it’s a surprise for most of their customers. If any one of you want to unfold this mystery, just pop in and ask them “What is Healthy Option”.

Mark & Heena - 08 March 2006

Really Impressive, Excellent Service, Fantastic Company, We all had a really Good Meal

Nicole - 28 February 2006

While we were hanging out with our friends on the new year we passed by the resturant. The beautiful interior of Lal Haweli attracted us to go in. What an exciting welcome we had by the Staff. A perfectly located Bar has facinated us the most. The Service was amazingly immaculate. And the food was heavenly delicious. And the prices were so ideal that we returned out home with a great memory of the new year evening.

Yan Trefer Overfield - 02 January 2006

Food is reasonable and prices are really good - also allow you to take your own alcohol which keeps it cheap and cheerful. Only downside was that decor was a bit shabby and the toilets were a little dingey.

Dave Hedgehog - 19 December 2005

This is my favourite restaurant! The food is delicious, the staff are always friendly and helpful and are happy to accomodate if there are any (very rare) problems. I agree with what others have said about the service sometimes being a little on the slow side but I really don't mind that as the food is certainly worth waiting for! You can go here and have a nice, full meal and a drink for less than a tenner and it is certainly value for money. I have often recommended this restaurant to friends and they have always commented on what a brilliant recommendation it was. Simply fantastic!

Me - 20 November 2005

A superb restaraunt- the staff are always polite and the food always excellent. One of those places where you hear the phrase 'that was the best curry i've ever had!'. great vegetarian menu- try the balti paneer with the veg makani- heaven!

Matthew Norman - 12 November 2005

Awful. Really bland food, no depth, lacking in flavour. Guy on the door said this is 'the best curry in Manchester'. It's the worst I've had. We had 4 different dishes all tasted pretty much the same. Avoid.

Carl, Manchester - 24 September 2005

Yum, yum! The waiters were very friendly and polite. Service slightly on the slow side. Food beautiful. I'd go to this restaurant if your are looking for a "safe" pick. Wife's parents will like the atmosphere of the place. There's nothing going to upset your party.

Julia - 26 March 2005

Went for a meal with 9 others. Food excellent as we had a mixture of dishes and shared between us. Only disappointment was one of the meals was forgotten to be brought and one person ended up with no food. Managere was most apologetic and agreed a discount from the bill. With beers and 2 courses each, worked out at £15 per head. Will return!

David - 13 March 2005

This is one of those resturants you have to eat in...the food is superb, as are the friendly staff! Even when we turned up very drunk very late on a Friday night they sat us down and fed us till we were stuffed!! Just what you need! I really recommend this restuarant and can't praise it enough.

Kirstie - 06 March 2005

this and lal qila are the best curry houses in rusholme ... there's not much to choose between them to be honest but i tend to end up here most often for some reason!!! food is top quality, place is always rammed and you can bring your own beer so youre not out of pocket at the end of the night

simon j - 01 March 2005

food was great and rthe fact that it was bring your own alcohol reduced the bill. the waiters were alright looking too and the daksani was amazing ill definitely be going again!
